Why we need your help.

The hours between 3:10 and 6:30 pm--after the Hernández school day ends, and before the workday has come to a close--are a crucial time. For many working families, after school care means making a decision: high quality or affordability.

At Friends of the Hernández, we do not believe families should have to make this decision. The Hernández After School Program provides multidisciplinary, bilingual programming to the K-8 students of the Hernández school so every afternoon is full of new experiences that build on school day learning, encourage physical and emotional wellness, and prioritize fun.

With the national average cost of after school hitting $456 a month, maintaining HASP’s affordability is more important than ever before. According to Afterschool Alliance, 1 in 5 kids across America are unsupervised between the hours of 3 and 5 pm--the time when risky behaviors are likely to peak.

As the new school year approaches, we look forward to all the excitement to come: karate classes, crafts with Group Leaders, performances in the auditorium, and A+ homework assignments. This year at Friends of the Hernández, we want everyone to join in the fun. Your donation will help us reach this goal, by providing crucial funds to keep our monthly fees low and program accessible to all Hernández students.
